Sacramento authorities are looking into a shooting that took place Saturday evening at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area as deputies were dispersing a large unsanctioned party of hundreds of attendees.
Background
Deputies initially got calls about Howe Park at approximately 6:30 in the evening after being notified of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Following that, another report was received mentioning a reported physical confrontation happening within the park grounds.
An overhead unit flew over the park but was unable to locate the reported altercation. However, it became clear that a crowd of several hundred had congregated at Howe Park without permission.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Responding units set about removing people from the park by encircling the gathering and making announcements telling the hundreds present to disperse at once. Nearly 15 minutes were allotted for the gathering to break up.
As the crowd was being cleared that an estimated 20 to 25 shots cut through the air. The rapid succession of shots sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies quickly moved to identifying shooting victims.
Those Who Were Hit
When the dust settled, four shooting victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The victims — a group of one female and three male victims each reported to be in their 20s — were brought Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 to area medical facilities. Medical teams reported that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one had injuries classified as minor. Fortunately, all four victims survived and were stable.
Metro Fire Sacramento also responded and provided medical assistance those who had been shot prior to hospital transport.
The Investigation
Most of the gunfire was confirmed to have unfolded adjacent to the Cottage Way side of the park alongside the local Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Investigators discovered additional spent rounds on the Cottage Way roadway. Round impacts were noted in the wrought iron fence near the Home Depot. This ballistic evidence showed that at least one shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. The Home Depot was locked down for a period of time. CSI units alongside detectives remained on scene throughout the night.
Suspects Detained
Information obtained through scanner monitoring confirmed that a Kia had been stopped in Solano County California. Four people were detained. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were heading to pick up the four detainees to return them to Sacramento for investigation. Video evidence confirmed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
